As any amature I started small and am slowly working my way up the ladder as far as apature size.

My first scope I won on ebay real cheap, but was a great investment. It is a Tasco 60mm x 900mm refractor. An old one at that, before the Tasco line (in my and other's opinion) went south. With a few upgrades it became my sole viewing source. I upgraded the eyepieces from the standard ones even though they weren't to bad at that. The image was night and day in clearity. WOW !

My second scope I just purchased (NEW) recently and am excited to test it out. We have been having overcast weather here.
It is a Bushnell Northstar 4.5 computerized series reflector.

The sscope is 100% portable and quickly at that to. Two twists nuts and the tube is off the Kinematic mount. The tripod (aluminum) folds to about 5 inches round. In the car in under 2 minutes and your off to a new viewing location. Hopefully a dark spot.

Aligning the computer is a breeze. Point the tube north at the north star and follow the computer's steps. Again a 2 minute process. Simple.

The computer had 7 modes of exploration. EXPLORE,SKY TOUR,TELESCOPE,IDENTIFY,ALIGN EARTH,ALIGN STAR, and ALIGN OBJECT. Not only will it tell you what you are viewing at the moment but will give you its description.
EXAMPLE: JUPITER: fifth planet from the sun.
Largest planet in solar system
16 moons. Orbit is 11.86 years.
Diameter 143,00km.
Named for roman king of gods.

Now thats a learning tool if you ask me. My son and I will be spending alot of time learning and viewing. He is 5 and wants to learn and learn. He just can't get enough.

OK, the scope came in the 1.25" eyepiece format. And I must say my refractor has the .965" pieces and what a difference 1.25" makes. The field of view is amazing. A must upgrade for anyone using the .965" pieces.

Check back I will have more to come...
